The World Through the Eyes of a Poet
I am sitting here, looking at about 10 inches of snow and for some reason, starting a travel blog seemed like a good idea. If you found my page, it could be because you’re familiar with my work as a poet, podcaster, or educator. You may not know that I am an avid traveler with a particular privilege: I can go almost anywhere I want in the world… for free (or close to it).
How do you travel the world for FREE?!
Great question lol. The short answer is “I have a hookup.” I have a friend who works for a major airline and one of the benefits is you can pick someone as your registered companion. So to put it simply- I can fly with my friend’s airline as long as there is available space on a flight. Depending on the destination or travel type, it could be completely free or I just pay the applicable taxes.
Where have you been so far?
Over the past 7 almost 8 years I’ve travelled to:
- 44 US States (What’s left: Deleware, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, & Hawaii)
- Havana, Cuba
- London, UK
- Paris, France
- Cancun, Mexico
- Tulum, Mexico
- Johannesburg, South Africa
- Capetown, South Africa
- Bayahibe, Dominican Republic
What will this blog be about?
This blog will focus on my travels, but you can expect content about my life as a single millennial black woman, my life as a poet, storyteller and creative entrepreneur, and my philosophy on certain topics. Reviews on media, restaurants, and products are also fair game. I’m a big fan of documentaries, audiobooks, and books so expect to see some opinions and recommendations.
In addition to my blog, I’ll be posting more on my Youtube and sending regular updates via my Newsletter. You can also keep up with my Podcast, Moderne Renaissance, which will cover a similar range of topics.
As I begin this blog, I do so with gratitude. My brother and I are first-generation world travelers. My parents did not have passports and my mom comes from an era where women certainly didn’t travel alone. I am grateful that things are different and I have such an opportunity to explore and adventure. Thank you for being a part of the journey. Let’s see where it takes us….
